A. Jazz is the type of music originating in New Orleans around the beginning of the 20th century and subsequently developing through various increasingly complex styles, generally marked by intricate, propulsive tythms, polyphonic ensemble playing, improvisatory, virtuosic solos, melodic freedom, and a harmonic idom ranging from simple diatonicism through chromaticism to atonality.

B. Rock-and-roll is a style of popular music that derives in part from blues and folk music and is marked by a heavily accented beat and a simple, repetitive phrase structure.
